Ned Fitzgibbons Retires!! Ned’s last day in the office was 12/18/08…..
I would like to take this time to pay tribute to a wonderful leader and person I have had the pleasure of working with. Upon my first meeting with Ned we were both hobbling on crutches!! We still have a laugh when we think back to that day. Ned offered me the position of HANDS Program Coordinator for Bullitt County and that was over 7 years ago. I think I remember even then he mentioned “in 8 years I’m retiring” and he said it quite smugly. I have been very fortunate to have worked with such a supportive and fair- minded boss. I have had the opportunity to work with many other department heads and service providers in our county and across the state of Kentucky and hear only positive words in regard to Ned Fitzgibbons. Through conversations with Ned, I have learned that he started his Bullitt County Health Dept. career some 22 years ago in a very small building off Buckman Street in Shepherdsville with only a handful of staff. He has since been behind 3 major construction projects which have increased the Health Dept. from one building to now two large buildings that jointly house over 35 employees. The most recent Harold Meredith Annex Building was built with the ability to add a second floor for future expansion and growth. It is this kind of foresight that has brought the Bullitt County Health Dept. to the level of care and services offered to date. Thank you Ned for being a wonderful role model and encouraging my personal commitment to Public Health through your leadership. I feel confident in saying that you will be greatly missed by your Bullitt County Health Department family. Best wishes on your retirement!
