HANDS will have graduated 87 children when the next HANDS graduation arrives on 7/14/09 at 6:30 p.m. in the Harold Meredith annex building! This will be the 18th graduation since the program started approximately 8 years ago in Bullitt County! Eight children will receive their diploma! HANDS staff is very proud of each child and parent as they have committed approximately 2 years to the program learning about child development and parenting skills! Health Education and HANDS are joining together to sponsor a nutrition education workshop on Budgeting on August 6, 2009 from 6:30-8:00PM. “Participants will be taught how to budget food stamps, money, and resources so that proper nutritious foods can be purchased throughout the month. Recipes created by our Registered Dietician, taste testing parties, grocery store shopping tips and tips for healthy snacks and meals will be discussed.” (copied from PACS, Inc 2008 flier) Twenty slots are open to HANDS families, who need to call 955-5668 to reserve their spot by July 30th. There will be no childcare provided. Adults only please. Come enjoy the taste testing and the chance to win a door prize! FRED (Fathers Reading Every Day) got kicked off on 5/28/09 at Bernheim. Everyone who attended got a June 2009 calendar of events. HANDS is had their FRED night on June 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the Harold Meredith annex building! All Bullitt County children were invited to come with their families. A story was read to them plus the children worked on an activity that corresponds with the story. Each child got to take a book home with them! FRED (Fathers Reading Every Day) has been an annual, county-wide event for the past four years which the Bullitt County Adult & Community Education Program has started. "FRED is a program designed to encourage fathers, grandfathers, and other positive male role models to read to their children on a daily basis. The program aims to increase father involvement in children's literacy development and to improve the quality of father -child relationships |
